WBL Seminar 2

Image
2019 Emoticon was quite an experience in itself. Emoticon was held within the New York Public Library and I went with my entire Web Design Class including my CTE teacher as we were all accepted into the expo as we submitted different games we each submitted whether it be in groups or individually. During the first couple hours of the expo a bunch of different projects were displayed by a lot of different groups and it was really cool to see a lot of cool work done by others and we were also given the opportunity to display our own work and present it to the people who went to the expo and show them what we created and the process behind it as well. After the presentation we then participated in activities such a creative thinking activity which involved building bridges with some miscellaneous object like LED lights, tap, etc.. then soon after that we had the opportunity to listen to a few people talking about their own careers and one of the i...

WBL Seminar 1

The NY SCI Fair was Stem Career Expo held within the New York Hall of Science. I came to the event with a small group of my peers as we wanted to see what the fair would have to offer and the fair was a nice experience for all of us. The fair had a lot of colleges and companies waiting to tell everyone about what each of them had to offer and what programs they offer to high school students which was an overall interesting thing to learn as many of the colleges and companies offered very good programs for high school juniors and sophomores. During the middle of the expo there was also a seminar in which they talked about Stem Careers and the different paths the companies and colleges offer for students looking to pursue a career in Stem. Overall, it was a pretty good experience in the end as I got to learn more about the options which are before me.4

Guest Speaker 2

Another day during the winter semester we were given the opportunity to listen to other guests who are Alex Eacker and Andrew Otto who took the time to come into our classroom and talk about their journey throughout their individual careers and lives including the struggles and downfalls they experienced as well.  Otto works for Wikipedia and talked with the entire class about the journey he took to get their and he explained how Wikipedia works and even some facts that I didn't even know about such as Wikipedia does not take display any advertisement and only relies on peoples donations to keep the website running and all the people who work to make it what it is which is pretty cool. Alex Eacker also talked about his experience as he participated in the creation of many startups and how and what its like working in a startup company and how truly hard it is and how much time you need to put in order to make sure it turns out positively. ...

Guest Speaker 1

During one class day back in winter we were blessed with a visitor from Care Point Health known as Mr. Maseda. Mr. Maseda works told us about the departments in which he works for within Care Point Health which heavily focuses on cyber-security for the organization. I thought this was pretty cool as I want to go into a field of cyber-security in the future and the information Mr. Maseda provided was actually useful in giving me insight within what the cyber-security field would look like. Overall, Mr. Maseda talked about some of the duties his job has such as making sure to do thorough background checks on each employee the organization hires and or has already hired as well as making sure the organizations cyber-security is up to date in order to secure any information they need to keep confidential. The experience offered by Mr. Maseda was incredibly wonderful and very insightful and I'm glad I was given the opportunity to listen about his jo...

Power Skills: Synopsis

The Web Design course and the WBL Requirements both are preparing me for the future and what comes with it. They both help me realize the skills necessary not only for interviews but also for the career path I chose on following which is cyber-security with Web Design teaching me the basics needed such as knowledge on HTML. CSS, JavaScript, and even some jQuery I already have an early start on learning this language which allows me to further my knowledge as I move on to college. This undoubtedly helps me greatly in my future employment as people would be able to see all that I have done in high school and the knowledge I carry with me making me a more likely candidate to be hired and plus with the knowledge given to me by WBL workshops will also aid me as I search for the write place to work for as it taught me to be comfortable with whoever I end up working for and to never stay silent when situations arise and how to deal with them according...

Power Skills: Teamwork

The most basic skills required to create a cohesive team who work to achieve a common goal is no doubt communication. Communication is one of the other power skills and is the most needed skill when it comes to teamwork because without it their would be no brainstorming of ideas between the group members or any comments to help others improve what they have done. By communicating with the team roles can be given to ensure everyone has the best role suited for themselves and therefore create a more efficient working team who can quickly and reach the goal. Another skill necessary for teamwork is to keep an open mind and this is because although you might think your idea is the best some people also have ideas to offer and with that you can help bounce your ideas off each other and come to an agreement instead of being stuck upon one idea in which only one person in the group agrees on. These are skills I believe to be necessary in order to create...

Power Skills: Interview Skills

Choice C displays the type of people who have little to no voice for themselves as they rely on others to be their voice and to make their own decisions especially in the workplaces with problems they deem to difficult arise. This types of people wouldn't be considered to be appropriate for a workplace such as Web Design as Web Designers are tasked with creating creative work which can sometimes be difficult and type C people are those wouldn't be up to the task.             I want to be the type of job applicant who is able to quickly think on their feet when it comes to problems which need creative problem solving and an applicant who is able to get their entire ideas across to whether it be coworkers or superiors. With these skills it would separate me from the competition and place me ahead others when looking for job.

Power Skills: Networking

Networking is an important part of life as it is basically this big giant web in which you can be a part of whether it be now or in the future. Currently today, I am networking with my classmates and peers within school the relationships I form with the people today can further my network in the future as through them I can network with more people and vice versa which can help me in my career path to cyber-security. I know I am networking with the right people as they are also following career paths similar to my own and therefore we help each other and allow each other to learn from one another.

Power Skills: Communication

Communication is an important part of life without it there wouldn't be half the things we have today. By clearly communicating ideas whether it be verbally or non-verbally (written) people are able to share ideas with each other and grow from each others ideas. Communication also allows people to understand each other or reach a point of understanding so that both sides reach an agreement.

Power Skills: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

When it comes to being a Web Designer Critical Thinking and Problem Solving are two traits absolutely needed in order to succeed. While writing code for different uses whether it be applications, games, etc.. problems are bound to arise and as a Web Designer you will need to figure out a solution to each problem that pops up and trust me when dealing with code problems will appear here and there and finding the most efficient solution to those problems is a necessary skills needed by future Web Designers. As Web Designers continue to write code you will no doubt begin thinking critically on what each thing should do and how each written line of code would affect the entirety of the work and because of this you will be able to gradually improve both of these skills over time as you find solutions for problem after problem. Overall, both skills are essential when it comes to Web Design as they allow the Web Designers to create better more clean v...

Power Skills: Professionalism

How can I show professionalism in school? By completing assignments tasked by teachers and or any extra work given as well as taking initiative in activities offered by the school such as joining extra curricular activities whether it be National Honor Society or Creative Writing this outgoing initiative displays professionalism within school. Not only this but respecting others whether it be students or teachers, as well as aiding those who are in need in school and even dressing and speaking professional help promote and display professional behavior within school and can shown by everyone.

Spring Term Project Reflection Journal

Image
For our Spring Term Project we needed to create a 20 page website on topics such as different types or art, or presidents, and even different tourists of NYC. For my project I decided to create a website on the tourist hotspots of NYC because we live here and I figure I can easily come up with places and things to talk about to input as content on my website. For the beginning of the project I created a wireframe for my website and a storyboard so I can formulate my plan and make it easier on myself when creating the project. I also decided to do 5 different tourist spots each with four sections such as "Fun Facts", "About", and etc. This would make 20 pages and with my Home and Sources pages I would have a total of 22 pages in the end. After figuring that out I started working on my project and throughout the entirety of the project there were bumps here and there and one of the biggest problems I faced was the linking because I had to make ...

Final Portfolio Plan

For the Final Portfolio I will try to work on it during the break a bit since I will already be working on the Spring Term project mainly and by doing so I can start a bit on the Portfolio. For the Portfolio I have to start by creating a theme for my website and creating a unique way to display my work to others creating a better experience for the user. After completing the Spring Term Project I would then turn my focus completely on the final Portfolio by adding my labs and projects from all 3 previous years of work.

Spring Term Project Plan

For the spring term project I plan on starting it on Monday April 22 during the break in order to get a head start. The first thing I plan on doing is researching the content I will implementing into the project as well as try to create a storyboard and wireframe for each page in the project in order to become more efficient in completing the project. Since the project is due a month from now if I can organize my time in doing it by working on it day by day like maybe creating a page everyday and then after doing so and implementing the basic content I can then update it by adding CSS as well JavaScript and jQuery to create a more interactive experience for the project. This is my plan for the Spring Term Project.

H&R Block Budget Challenge

Image
Okay so this is actually something we started in February and was actually in extremely helpful in learning what its gonna be like growing up and having to pay bills like rent, interest, credit card bills, etc... When first introduced to the budget challenge I was actually pretty confused but as we continued to go through it by picking our vendors such as our rent, cell phone, etc.. I learned more about the decisions we will soon have to make in our lives which can influence our everyday life and how we spend our money. A main factor of the budget challenge was making sure you have enough money in order to pay the bills on their respective due date and because one mistake can cause penalties which would lead to more penalties and live you in debt which is where you don't want to be. I was able to keep track of my payments throughout the entirety of the challenge and paid all my bills in time except the latest rent bill but luckily I was able to...

Lab 23-2 Reflection Journal

Image
This lab was actually pretty different from the others and pretty interesting to do but without the video it would have definitely taken longer to do as we have never done something like this before. For this lab we needed to create basically a search box which would be used to search for in this case cities or states and to complete this a JSON  file was used which contained cities and states and a function was used which placed them into an array and then whatever what was typed into the input box would then be searched for in the array and another function was used to filter out what was being searched for.             I have to admit I still don't quite understand how to complete this on my own the only reason I was able to finish this was due to the video provided but I know if I continue to try to understand the code provided I can figure out how to do it on my own and apply it to my own work even. In t...

Lab 30 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we needed to create a list which would order the words in a created array by itself but disregards words such as "the", "an", "a", and "I". To start the lab an array needed to be created containing a list of anything whether it be shows, movies, bands, etc... After that a function was then created utilizing the strip attribute which would then allow use to chose the words which would not be read. Lastly all that was needed was to select the li tags using the querySelector and then the list was placed into order with the function into the HTML.             The skills gained from the lab will be really useful when it comes to sorting am assive amount of information instead of ordering something one by one with this code from the lab it can be done itself using the function. Someday I know that this code will be useful to me as I am pursuing a career in computer science and every piece of code I learn ha...

CS Fair Reflection Journal

Image
Taken from the CS Fair website             Today we the Web Design academy had the opportunity to go to the CS Fair held within the Armory Track. At first before the entire trip even started I was wondering what we might see at this event and I really wasn't prepared for what was actually there. Once we got to the location I was astonished to see how many people actually went and even how many companies, colleges, etc were there at the fair. The place was massive and there was so many things to do, people to talk to and I was dumbfounded in where to start. The first thing I did during the fair was try the different activities they had to offer including playing with lights, driving a robot which was created to complete in a competition and was built in around 30 days which was extremely impressive. After trying the activities I then moved on to the actual fair itself and had the opportunities to talk to companies such as Facebook, Accenture, and eve...

WBL Mock Interview Workshop

Okay so like today got me a bit nervous because of the mock interview workshop scheduled but I knew that today's main goal was to help me better improve my interview skills to prepare me for the future job interviews I would have. When I first came into the classroom I saw just as last time that the chairs were arranged so that we would all be split up into groups so we can be interviewed by a teacher who volunteered to help. The teacher who came to my group was Mrs. Sakhno and I was relieved because she is someone I know as she taught me the previous year and the current year and I felt a bit better. When it was my turn to be interviewed I did surprisingly better than last time and surprised myself and i'm grateful for the feedback I received because it all helped me see that I need to improve in some areas when speaking towards the interviewer. She also taught me that when a job doesn't feel right it's okay to walk away from the interview and...

G4C Project 4 Reflection Journal

Image
The final topic for the Games 4 Change project revolves around the matter of endangered species. The group I was in created a quiz based app in which people will learn about what endangered species are and what we can do to help stop species from becoming extinct. The overall app is suppose to carry the hope that people will learn that in the world they live in there are animals going extinct and more and more are becoming vulnerable to extinction everyday. After the creation of the app I worked the website in which the app will be held on and one of my group members put 10 facts about endangered species so the user can learn more and more about them.              Working on the app and the website with my group was really good in understanding that the topic of endangered animals is really important. It was an interesting topic to focus on due to it being something that is truly affecting environments all...

G4C Project 3 Reflection Journal

Image
The 3rd topic for the Games 4 Change project revolves around Disrupting Age, Data shows currently that children who are 10 years old today will most likely live to be above 100. Therefore the app created for the project is to help the people who will theoretically live to be over 100 to have a healthy lifestyle and make sure that they will have good long lives. My group created a colorful design in order for the app to portray health as well as it covers important knowledge people should have when the grow up in the future. Such as things like what kind of food to eat, what relationships to have, what kind of mindset you should have, etc. Overall all of these factors are important to make sure the people of tomorrow live to have a long healthy life.             Creating this project was interesting as all the information that was put into the app I can utilize in my whole life so I myself can have a healthy lifest...

G4C Project 2 Reflection Journal

Image
So this time for the 2nd project for G4C instead of working in a group like the previous one I worked on this app by myself. The topic focused on was diversity, gender equity, and inclusion in the workplace. My idea for the app was to create a type of multiple choice game where 3 different scenarios for each part of the topic were explored and the users goal was to choose the correct choice which would improve the workplace whether it be by improving diversity, gender equity, or inclusion. The main objective was to get the user notified that there is such a thing as lack of diversity or inclusion in a workplace out there in the world and it is possible to be subjected to it but there are also ways to go against it and to improve the workplace for others and yourself this game will show you how you can do it whether be for a friend, employer, employee.              To complete the project I utilized App Lab on code.org and ...

G4C Project 1 Reflection Journal

Image
So for this project we had to create a game or website which would mainly focus on the topic of communities in 2050. For this project there isn't that much to talk about since this was completed bu handing in the same game or website my group created for the congressional app challenge. The idea for the app we created was to create a basically pocket bill of rights in which the user would be able to view their rights simply by opening up the app. The idea for the came from me and was inspired by one of the teachers in Info Tech Mr. Anthony. Mr. Anthony was complaining in class and pointing out indefinitely how not many people seem to know the rights that are there to protect which leads to negative consequences so that's how I came up with the idea since we are always on our phone why not have an app which can quickly be loaded and display the rights available to U.S citizens. My group submitted this towards the topic of 2050 because by then ev...

Lab 18 Reflection Journal

Image
This lab focused upon and was mainly displayed on the JavaScript Console which can be found in the developer tools. This lab introduced us to constants which are used to declare a variable but the variables cannot be reassigned. In the lab we created arrays within the const which held a list of important women throughout history due to it being women's history month it also contained the birth & death date of the person as well as the reason why they were considered important, another const held a list of people who inspired us or motivates us. Using these const we then created functions which would organize these list into order depending on things such as birth date, death date and their total age, even a list which organized the names alphabetically.              This lab overall is very useful as it gives us a new way to organize information and even within the JavaScript console which is important...

Lab 43 Reflection Journal

Image
This is the final lab this marking period and it was actually the funnest of them all as it was a whack a mole game displayed on web page so that anyone who comes can visit it and have fun playing with it. We created the whack a whole came by creating constants which held various amounts of data such as the mole, the score, etc. With the constants function were created which when the start button was clicked the mole would pop up in a transition like manner in a random hole each time because of the function and if clicked on time by the user a score would be added. There is no really objective to game except have fun and try to score the highest you can and of course have fun.             The skills gained from the lab are actually extremely useful and cool to have in our arsenal of code because with it we can add it to games by maybe making a clicker game or maybe utilizing it in a different way if desired. Ev...

Lab 42 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we needed to create a stopwatch of sorts which had pre-made buttons as well in case the user wanted to use them instead of typing in the time himself/herself but that is a option if the user wants to type it themselves. To complete the lab multiple constants were created in order to hold information such as the end time the start time as well as the input and pre-made button information. Using this information then functions were created gathering data such as the exact time now and as well as the countdown which countdowns directly on the web page second by second which is a really cool thing as you have a digital stopwatch on you website or web page. The lab relied heavily upon JavaScript as a bunch of data was taken from the page such as the time of the buttons as well as taken from the computer which is the time which is set upon it and with the data constants were made to hold the information and functions were made in order t...

Lab 41 Reflection Journal

Image
This lab is actually pretty similar to a previous lab we were tasked to do before lab 24 where we were tasked in creating buttons or sliders for a video we placed into the web page which would manipulate the video itself. Instead of creating buttons or sliders we created divs which were towards the side of the video and allow you to determine whether you want to speed up or slow down a video when you hover upon you simply select the speed in which you want the video to go in JavaScript was also added so when the div was hovered upon the colored div would follow where the mouse hovered upon which was a really cool effect to see. The overall code it took to complete the lab was mainly JavaScript as a function was needed in order to determine create an event so that when the div was hovered upon it would manipulate the video itself. The video I chose was best pranks from the T.V show the office.             The sk...

Lab 40 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we created a fun cool way to display information in a carousal like way and this actually got me really interesting as in all the labs we previously did I've never seen something like it but I wanted to know right away the code it took to create such a thing. To complete the lab divs were created and intertwined with each other in order to start off the lab. Soon after JavaScript and CSS were key factors in finishing the lab as with JavaScript event listeners were used to determine when the mouse clicks a div and or leaves it with this the effect was created which is actually really cool. CSS was used in order to style it the way you see fit maybe if you want it white and black you can do that if you want a rainbow you can do that also as well as adjust the height and width of the boxes.             The skills gained from the lab gives us a new way to organize information for the user to view the t...

Lab 39 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab the objective was to create a nav bar with a special feature added to it which is when hovered over the elements a pop up would appear with information whether it be images or just more links to go to. Depending on the total amount information contained within the pop up will determine the size of it. In order to complete the lab we added constants which held the drop down  elements as well as the li tags of the nav bar. Then by creating a function for the drop down elements so that when hovered over they would appear will simply complete the lab objective. You can also manipulate the color of the drop down inside the CSS which would add I guess more pizzazz.             The skills gained from the lab are actually momentously useful as they give us the option to create a more interactive web page for the user to experience making them surely to remember it and maybe even come back to view it agai...

Lab 38 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we needed to select multiple divs which were located inside each other and when the divs were clicked a message would display on the JavaScript console which would say "three" for the outer div "two" for the middle div and "one" for the inner div as well as trigger an event when the button below is clicked which writes the text "Click" onto the console. We completed this lab by using the querySelectorAll code which selected all the divs and with it I created a function so that when the divs were clicked then within the console log there id would be displayed. For the button a simple event function was created which when clicked would displayed the desired message.             The skills gained from the lab are useful as we start implementing more pieces of information such as divs and other elements this gives us a way to identify ids or even classes within the console. Creating an event with the bu...

Lab 37 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we needed to create a sticky nav bar and add it to a webpage. A sticky nav bar is simply a nav bar which follows wherever the user goes on the page which is pretty convenient in order to navigate the page easier if it contains a lot of content. In order to complete the lab we needed to create a constant which would hold the nav bar as well as a function which when scrolled down the page the nav bar would then transform to a different type of way such as in the beginning it just sort a long rectangle with elements to navigate the page when you scroll more down then the nav bar will cover the top of the page and be bit bigger as well as the tex within the nav bar too.             Even though creating a fixed nav bar wasn't new to me since there is another way to do it using "Position: Fixed", even though this way is simpler the code gained from this lab allows us to manipulate the elements of the nav ba...

Lab 36 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we needed to create a translator on our webpage essentially. To work the translator all that needed to be done is to select the voice in whatever language which you want in then the pitch as well which would determine if the voice is low or so high that you can't hear, you are even given the option to increase the rate in which the translator speaks in meaning it can be tuned to talk really slow or really fast,  after this all that is left to type in what you want to say into the text box and then press the speak button and hear your computer translate your message. There is even a stop button added if you have heard enough or if you want to type in a different message. We completed this lab using constants that would give access to the buttons "Speak" and "Stop" as well as the sliders which control pitch and rate and even the text box. Using the speechSynthesis to allow the voice of the user to be heard as well as adding an...

Lab 35 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we basically created a highlighter which essentially follows you around the web page. I did this by surrounding the words which I wanted to be highlighted when hovered upon with a tags so that not every word is selected only the ones I want. Using JavaScript we created a trigger which is hovering over the tex which would then trigger the white background to follow the words.             Using the skills we gained from the lab we are able to highlight important words on a site and can even implement this to other things such as images. This can help create interesting effects onto the web page which would catch the eyes of people visiting the site and people will remember seeing it and be like "WOAH". I'm thinking about using the code onto my own portfolio to highlight links such as to my labs and projects and other work.

Lab 34 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we created basically a compass which can not only track what direction you may be heading but also how fast you're heading there. We completed this lab by first creating individual constants which each would hold the respective vector speed and direction. After creating the constants then the navigator.geolocation.watchPosition was added into the JavaScript in order to be able to keep track of the speed of the user as well as the directions in which the user was faced was tracked by arrow.style.transform=rotate($data.coords.heading)deg).             The code we used for this lab can be seen used in many things today such as fit-bits which tracks how many steps the user takes the speed in which they are going and other things. Learning this code is cool as it gives insight on how somethings use this code in order to function which is pretty interesting like you essentially have the code to make your ow...

Lab 33 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we created essentially a recorder of sorts which would record whatever the user says onto the microphone into the web page in the text box. We completed this lab by first creating a constant which would contain the p tag and then using the recognition element anything the user says would be placed inside the p tag recording anything which is said such as below "Hello" was recorded. Although this only works when previewed due to the host not being able to ask for permission to utilize the microphone this lab was overall cool as anything I said appeared onto the web page which I found interesting.             The skills gained from the lab can be easily used in any type of manner whether it be to record your thoughts, keep a journal, or even write a paper by simply speaking. This is something I see myself using at one point in the future whether it be for fun or for my portfolio its just something reall...

Lab 32 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we had to utilize the camera of the user whether it be on his laptop or his desktop the web page needed to ask access to use the camera and then the user can choose whether or not to apply a filter which is done by using the scroll bars. Unfortunately, this lab didn't work as intended due to the host not permitting the use of the camera therefore rendering the code pointless as it cannot be used in this server, also I wasn't able to complete the filter feature therefore no effects desired could be created. But overall the lab was completed by using a constant and the snap element so that when a picture was taken it would then be displayed upon the bottom of the page. The main function would be for the filter feature but I was not able to complete it as it got to complicated.             The skills gained from the lab can be used to create a more interactive experience for the user when visiting your p...

Lab 31 Reflection Journal

Image
This lab is something I might use myself as I spend most of my free time watching videos on YouTube and this can come in handy. So for this lab we needed to create a list in which there would be videos each with a different time and the total amount of time for all videos will be displayed on the console log. To do this the data-time attribute was added to the li tags and then using the querySelectorAll code all the data-time attributes were selected each containing a different amount of time for each individual video and it was placed inside a constant. Then after doing this separate constant were made for hours and minutes using this the total amount of hours and minutes would be calculated and then display upon the console log.             The code gained from the lab will most likely come in handy in future work whether it be towards ones own portfolio or a personal project the code can be used to make calcula...

Lab 29 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we needed to display a sentence or phrase onto the web page which when the JavaScript is added would have a text shadow effect with different colors and distances from the original. The position of the duplicates will be determined by the position of the users mouse and will move when the mouse moves. For my lab I used the phrase "WOAH!" with a fire emoji in the front because why not. The color and the distance of the text shadow is all determined by the JavaScript which creates this pretty cool effect.             I don't know if i'll use this exact type of effect on my own work in the future but I can use something similar to the code we learned from this lab to create a pretty cool effect which would attract the interest of people visiting my work. This lab was overall cool because its fun to see the different types of things you can do with coding and that will this variety of things you can ta...

Lab 28 Reflection Journal

Image
In this lab we created essentially a local storage on the web page in which when the user puts information into the text box then when the information is submitted no matter if the page is reloaded the information will always be there for the user to see. The lab was completed using all JavaScript which ran a function which prevented the data from being erased when the page is refreshed as well as using the submit event which allowed the user to input the information they desire.             The skills gained from the lab are useful to use when the times comes that we need to save local information onto or web page or website such as a search history this code will allow the user to be able to come and see what they previously looked for without the hassle of searching for it once again if forgotten.

Lab 26 Reflection Journal

Image
In this lab we created a basic transition in which when the user would scroll into position then the image would come into view such as it is appearing out of nowhere. I completed this lab by simply creating a function which would determine where on the page the user is on and then if in the position of where an image is the image would smoothly slide into view. Thats basically all the lab was and it very simple to do by using JavaScript and will be very useful in implementing in future work. I will try to use the skills here in my other work in order to create a better experience for the user and increase the likelihood that the user would come back again.

For this lab in particular we once again came back to the JavaScript console in which we had to create basically a secret password in which when typed then a message would appear in the console itself in this case it would be "DING DONG!".  To complete the lab I created a function which would check if a key was pressed or not and if so then the key which was pressed would be displayed on the console and when the keys were pressed which would then be the secret word which in my case would be "kevin" then the message would display as well.             The skills gained from the lab can be useful to add to other work as it allows you to collect information of which keys are being pressed and therefore can be used to add certain interactive elements that the user can experience. I will try to add this to my own work to create a better experience for my users.

For this lab the main objective was to create a custom video player in which the user can interact with the video. Using JavaScript we manipulate the elements of the video enabling the user to increase and decrease the speed of the video and there is also a progress bar below in order for the user to keep track in where they are at in the video. The video I chose to use was a dog meme compilation and after placing the video on to the page with the help of JavaScript as well as CSS I was able to create buttons which actually manipulate the video.             The skills gained from the lab can be used in a variety of situations as we are learning to manipulate elements even in videos as well. Therefore when it comes to adding a video into our website or work in general we can better understand and create a more interactive webpage for the user as well as a better experience.

For this lab we created a bunch of check boxes in like a survey type or manner and the main objective of the lab was to make sure the check boxes work and take in the input of the user to see whether he/she checked a box or not, as well as if the shift key was pressed then a check box was clicked then all the boxes would be selected this is normal to see in survey type pages and even questionnaires and its a good thing to know in the future as it further widens my knowledge and my classmates knowledge in coding. To complete the lab a function was created which would determine if the shift key was being clicked and if true would then select all the boxes.             Like I said before the skills gained from the lab are useful as we can implement to future work and even in general its a good thing to know how it works so we can later use it anytime we are asked to create a survey or even a questionnaire so there...

Lab 22 Reflection Journal

For this lab we not only played around with the JavaScript console again but we also applied JavaScript which would change the CSS of an element once clicked for this instance it happened to be the p tag which held the words "xBREAKxDOWNx". By using the query Selector for the p tag I was able to create a function which would then be activated when the p tag was clicked and would changed the size and color of the words. In the JavaScript console there would be a display of names and a count which display how many times a name was display which was done by using the console.count attribute.           The skills gained from the lab especially manipulating elements using JavaScript will be very useful to use in future work whether it be labs or projects and even my own portfolio. I think I will definitely try to add it to my work in order to make my work more interactive to the user and a better experience in general. ...

Lab 21 Reflection Journal

Image
This lab reminded me of a similar activity we did using app lab on code.org in our junior year but instead of having app lab to make it easier we had to write the JavaScript ourselves which was interesting but a pretty simple task to do. For the lab we had to create a canvas on the web page in which the user can move the mouse around and a paintbrush effect would activate enabling the user to draw anything. But unlike regular paintbrushes when the x and y value of the mouse changes so does the size and color of the brush. To start the x and y value of the mouse needed to be individually declared as a variable so a function can be created so that every time the values change so would the color and size. Therefore, as long as the user moved around the mouse on the canvas he/she can paint anything she desires.             This lab was fun to do and the skills gained from the lab can be utilized as we can take the ...

Lab 20 Reflection Journal

Image
I was actually pretty excited for this lab when I first saw because it looked really cool and fun to do and I was right. This lab focused on flex panels and the first thing we had to do to complete this lab was create divs in which the panel would be contain within as well as the text that would be displayed and the images. To create the effect of the panel growing bigger and smaller when clicked JavaScript and CSS was used in which when the panel was clicked the JavaScript function would then select a class which would changed the style of the panel which would therefore create the effect which can be seen. The lab was pretty fun to create and for my theme I used images of the night sky and created my quotes which made sense if read horizontal only.             The skills gained from the lab are overall useful and can be used in future labs and projects as it is a cool way to display information even in our own i...

Lab 19 Reflection Journal

Image
In this lab just like the previous one it was displayed within the JavaScript console and used the basic fundamentals of the last lab being the const. Instead of creating list containing important women throughout history we had to create a list containing 3 teachers within the school with 5 comments about each teacher as well as the student id of each person who commented, as well as the date in which the teacher started teaching for the DOE in order to find out if the teacher had tenure or not. Like the previous lab we had to sort the information to get that piece that we wanted to retrieve later in this case it was the student id's as well as if the teacher had tenure or not. Functions were created in order to find out the comment a particular student made by using his/her id number as well as a true or false function to find out whether or not the teacher had tenure or not.              The skills gain...

Everfi Assignment Reflection Journal

Image
So for like the past month we were assigned to do a couple of assignments on Everfi. These assignments each focused on a specific aspect of finances such as consumer protection, stocks, banking, etc... and each were very useful as they went over every topic precisely. For the future everything that I learned from the assignments will come in handy as I will need to know everything from budgeting to investing.

Project #5 Poster

Image
Following up the completion of the Everfi website which was project 5 we needed to also create a poster which would explain the entire website and its entire focus and point. The poster needed to include a storyboard and wire frame in which the website was created upon as well as an important line of code which was essential to the making of the website for us it was the code for the table. This is because the table basically laid out the entire website and organized the information so it would be easier to view for the users. Finally to finish up the project we also added the roles each team member had and the challenges and opportunities this website created such as the challenge of managing how to complete the work on time when it was due the next day. Overall, this is what we came up with and I thought we did a great job. You can see it below:

Project #5 Master Your Finances Reflection Journal

Image
In this project we were assigned a project which would be based on a certain category from Everfi. My group was given the category of Higher Education and the purpose of the website was to explain this category in sections in which the user would understand when visiting the website. In the beginning my group needed to research the category using Everfi so we split into two groups one which would do the research and the other two who would work on the website in order to make sure it was completed by the due date.             I used atom to work on the website. I also decided to create a simple web page for the project so the user can easily view the information. After working on the website with my partner we finished it up and just needed to input all the information so after coming back to class we received the information and inputted it into the website therefore completing the entire thing. The main points o...

Senior CTE Expo

Image
So this past Friday was our final CTE Expo and our last time representing Web Design Academy. The objective of the Expo was to practice our communication skills and our ability to basically "sell" the class and everything which it offers and of course to attract some fresh blood into the Web Design Academy to see if they can rise up to the challenge. To prepare for the CTE Expo I completed two previous projects which we were given earlier and had them displayed on a computer so our visitors would be able to view my work and what I have done with my time in Web Design. During the actual event in the beginning at my first scheduled session I admit I tried a bit to dodge people including the teacher but later during that same session I tried to find some visitors to see if the would come with me to see my previous work and see if I can answer any questions they have about the class and of course tell them everything the class has to offer for their futur...

Shark Tank 2 Reflection Journal

Image
So this is just like my previous post "Shark Tank 1" the only difference is we were given a new client and just like the last client we needed to create a website in which we display their product and what it does and basically market it off to the public. The team we were given were known as the Scions and consisted of my classmates Job N, Kevin R, Jason J, and Bryan C their product was a black box AI which can basically do what any AI does but you are able to customize it to your specific requirements which is pretty cool and would come in very handy in certain circumstances.             To start off with unlike the previous collaboration of my team which lacked good communication and ended with a moderate design website. For client we made designed the website to be simplistic so that's its easy to navigate through and easy to read for the user. First, we established a good communication through the applicati...

Podcast Project Reflection Journal

Image
Alright so this project started way before we came back from winter break. It started the day before we went on break when we were assigned to watch 9 podcast which can be watched from about 5 different podcast stations an example is the Moth, Ted Talk, Radio Lab, etc... The podcast stations I chose to watch were Radio Lab and Ted Talk because they both contained episodes which peaked my interest and I actually found interesting to listen to. From Ted Talk I found the episode known as "The New Frontier" to be the most interesting out of all that I listened to this is because it discussed the topic of whether humans should live in mars and in what way would they exactly live their and thrive in the cold vacuum of space. From Radio Lab the episode "Infective Heredity" was the most interesting to me seeing as it discussed how that in the past every creature and each of their respective species would share genes with one another and later exhibit...

WBL Workshop #4 Career Test Reflection Journal

On today's workshop it actually focused on the our future and what careers would be suited for us or if we already know which careers we each would like to pursue as we are almost graduating soon. At the start, we were all given 3 packets one packet contained information and keywords the other packet contained numerous amount of questions on which types of things we preferred to do and or would like to do due to interest. After answering most of the questions on the second packet to find out in what category we are each in to help us determine the career that is good for us we then moved on to the third and final packet which asked us information about ourselves and the career we would like to pursue in the future for example I would like to pursue a career in computer science. We then filled actions we have taken to achieve this and or things we have already achieved up to this point like skills in working with others etc... Overall the work...

WBL Workshop #3

In today's workshop we learned about work safety and to always be in the look out in case you are being harassed or being mistreated in the work environment you are in. The workshop dealt with how to deal with cases of harassment and if we are uncomfortable at anytime in our workplace. It gave an overview of how to deal with certain situations which will actually be useful in the future as all of us our seniors and will soon be going out to the real world and come face to face to having jobs and or going to college so all the information that was given to us will come really in handy. The overall, workshop gave us ways to deal with situations if we ever come to be in them in the future and how to deal with it appropriately which is really useful.

Cornell Tech Trip/Presentation Reflection Journal

Image
So today after school we actually had a pretty cool field trip planned to Cornell Tech a private college which is super interesting and great thing to experience seeing as we are all soon going to college after graduating high school. The trip to Cornell Tech was fun but I was a bit nervous because I dreaded the soon coming presentation of our experience with Shark Tank. Before the presentation I actually managed to enjoy myself by spending times with the class walking around the campus as it is located on Roosevelt Island which is another cool thing. After looking around the campus and the pooping geese we then proceeded to the main building in which we were allowed to prepare a little for the presentation before we entered the room in which we would soon present upon. Once it was time to start presenting I was kind of freaking out but I remained calm because if I freaked out then my team members would freak out so yea. After seeing the firs...
