FAFSA Reflection Journal

Today I decided to participate in the FAFSA workshop our school offered. The workshop allowed me to learn about FAFSA and everything I needed to complete it. With the help of the schools staff I learned how important FAFSA truly is to my life as it would give me financial aid in college and open more opportunities to me. The workshop was held in the CCEC otherwise known as the library and once I got there we were given a packet that explain overall what FAFSA is and the importance of it. I went there by myself as my parents were both busy at the time so I went to gather the information needed o complete the form.             So first in order to fill out the FAFSA document we needed a FAFSA ID one for the student applying for the application and one for your parent. After creating a FAFSA ID I then moved on to the form and filled it out with the income information need so after asking for a counselor to check my ...

Shark Tank 1 Reflection Journal

Image
So today we actually started something very special in class which I find very cool in my opinion we have partnered with Cornell Tech to participate in a research study. For the first part of the study we were all assigned to be in groups of four and asked to create a product which could be anything to customizable AI, virtual reality suits, etc.. After the creation of the product then each group was asked to gather information on every product so each individual persons in the group were required to get information from two different companies. The completion of that led us to be assigned one group of "company" which we were required to create a website for marketing their product to show off to everyone. The company my group was assigned was MajinBuu Industries who created a virtual reality suit. My group collaborated very well and each individual focused on one singular part of the webpage and in the end we all brought our work together to...

Lab 11 Reflection Journal

Image
For Lab 11 we were provided an HTML file which we were required to change the text when the button was clicked. This lab was actually really simple because the only thing that was required was to create a text file which contained text such as in my case it said "I changed the text" then I linked it to the already existing HTML file and once the button is clicked on my HTML file then the text would change. The lab helps us create text outside of an HTML file which is kinda useful so your work wont be as cluttered and you can better organize it all together.

Lab 10 Reflection Journal

Image
For Lab 10 we were actually like the past to labs given a full webpage including the content and our job was to create a cycle slideshow using the images provided one slideshow needed to be vertical and the other horizontal which at first to me looked very hard. But with the help of the internet I found a way to complete the project with its desired intent. By first gathering all the divs which contained the class "subColumn" and then applying the .cycle method using jQuery it would create the slideshow which was asked. But with the cycle method came three properties which were speed, timeout, and delay. Speed would declare the speed at which the images were shown, timeout would be how long they stay their, and delay would be the time until the images continue to move on. Adding all these together within the .cycle method allowed me to complete the intent of the lab.             The lab overall allowed me...

Lab 9 Reflection Journal

Image
For Lab 9 like Lab 8 we were already given a full webpage and content the directions asked us to create a carousel with the given images in the page to make it more visually appealing to the audiences. The first problem I found with the webpage was that the JS files weren't linked to the HTML document making the virtually useless so I linked it I also linked the theme.css file in order to add the required CSS to the page as well as add it to the created next and previous buttons. After that I went to the JS file and selected the div which contained all the photos which was "moreTopNews". After that to change the slideshow to make it horizontal I added CSS to move it from vertical to horizontal. Finally down with all that I started creating a function which would create the carousel by using the fadeIn and fadeout effect in created an effect whenever each button was placed the function ran on onClick.             T...

Lab 8 Reflection Journal

Image
Lab 8 was different from other labs we've done before this is because we were actually given the full website and content. The main focus of the lab was to gain more experience troubleshooting that's why within the lab there was one error which needed to be fixed in order for the page to correctly run like it was intended to. The problem for this page was the quote which was suppose to change every time the page was refreshed to display a new quote every single time. In order to fix the code and to make sure it runs as intended I created an array with all the quotes inside it and then created a function which would randomly pick an index in the array which means it randomly chose the quote assigned to index. After this a function was created which would change the text every time the page was refreshed by using document.getElementById. This is how I completed the lab to make it do what it was originally intended to do.       ...

Lab 7 Reflection Journal

Image
For Lab 7 we created an accordion which if I do say so myself is actually pretty cool. The lab introduced new tags which were used to create the accordion such as the dd and dt tag. The accordion was basically a mouse-over event where when ever the user would hover around the questions the answer would slide down creating the illusion of an accordion. jQuery was simply used to create a mouse-over event with the two new tags dd and dt. Where the dd will contain the question and the dt tag would contain the answer.             The skills gained from this lab are great for a web designer as it would add more visual appeal and give the web designer more options on what to add to their web pages in the future or any other projects.

Lab 6 Reflection Journal

Image
Lab 6 basically used everything from Lab 5 such as the box and all the buttons that were previously made we just had to add 3 completely new buttons which would not create animations but rather stop them in different ways. The buttons individually did different things such rapidly finish the animation, freeze it, or finish the last animation the played prior to the button being pressed.             To complete the lab I used the .stop which contained two parameters. In order to speed up the animation playing both parameters needed to be true, to freeze  it would be true, false. And lastly to finish the last animation which was prior to the button being click it would be false, true.             The skills gained in the lab are useful to a web designer as it adds to their knowledge and their ability to manipulate webpages to complete certain actions and in this case it would be s...

Lab 5 Reflection Journal

Image
For this lab we had to create a box using CSS and HTML which we will manipulate in various ways using jQuery. First in the lab I created a div which would be my box which would be manipulated later through various buttons that when clicked upon would run jQuery code and animate the box to do various things like moving up and down or grow bigger or smaller or just plain become transparent.             After creating the box and then moved on to create various buttons and giving each of them specific id's which would come in handy when creating the animations. Finally after all the buttons were created and with the completion of the box then the jQuery came in within my JS file I implemented JQ by also linking a jQuery library to my page which allows me to use jQuery. By using the jQuery animate I was able to manipulate the box to do various things which I found pretty cool. I even made a CRAZY button which did mult...

WBL Workshop #2 Reflection Journal

The main topic of our 2nd WBL workshop was the importance of resumes and what it should have and shouldn't. The workshop taught us tips which we should apply to our own resumes to further improve them. An example of what we need to make sure our resumes have is that it should be one page in length, easily readable font as well as size, proper grammar. The resume should also include action words to describe you and the things you've done an example is "educated young children" it helps the resume stand out better to the people who receive it.             During the workshop we even discussed soft and hard skills which we have and which we should put on our resumes in order to let our employers know of our skills. When we had to pick one soft skill and one hard skill I chose collaboration as my soft skill and JavaScript as my hard. The reason I chose collaboration is because I find it easy to work with others and bet...

The MET Reflection Journal

Image
As far as museums go the MET is one of the best I've been too even though this is my second time visiting the MET I was still very much astonished of the artwork that was being held in display there each piece having their own story to tell. While walking around the MET one piece really caught my attention out of all of them but it wasn't just one painting rather 7 that go together. The Seven Deadly Sins were the piece of art which gained my interest almost right away due to the way the artist painted to portray each of these individual sins. The sins include from left to right Lust, Pride, Envy, Anger, Avarice(Greed), Sloth, and Gluttony and each of them were painted so creatively that the caught my attention with haste. Lust is the desire of the human body, Pride is the excessive belief in ones achievement and abilities, Envy is the desire to have what anyone else has no matter what it is, Anger is a strong feeling of hostility, Avarice...
