What Does a CTE Diploma Means to Me?
What diplomas can students receive in High School? There are different diplomas that students in High School can get but for each one they have different standards in order to achieve them. One of the diplomas that a student can receive is a Regents diploma this is the basic diploma students need to graduate High School with and can receive. The Advanced Regents diploma is a diploma that students can aim for while in High School this diploma is for students who have a taken more regents and whose grades exceed those of regular students. To get the Regents diploma, a student needs 8 English credits, 8 S.S credits, 6 Math credits, 6 Science credits, 2 credits in LOTE, 4 credits in PE, 1 credit in Health, 2 credits in Art and 7 elective credits. You will also need to pass 5 regents exams on English, any math, any science, and social studies, and any additional regents. Compared to the Regents diploma the Advanced Regents diploma is different as it requires 6 LOTE credits rather than 2, but you need 3 elective credits instead of 7, You will also need to pass 9 regents exams instead of 5 to be able to get the Advanced Regents diploma instead of the Regents diploma. This shows that students who work hard and try their best are able to receive a better diploma for their hard work.
In order to receive a CTE endorsed diploma one must be enrolled in State-approved CTE program. You can have either the Regents Diploma or the Advanced Regents Diploma in order to have a CTE endorsement. When taking a CTE course your elective credits would be covered and you will only be required to have 2 LOTE credits. You must also get credits in the CTE class, 1 credit in Career and Financial Management, passing the CTE technical assessment such as for Web Design you must pass the Dreamweaver ACA exam, you must also complete all your WBL requirements. Completing all of this will add the endorsement to your diploma. The benefits of having the CTE endorsement is that it will give you higher chances of receiving a job in the occupation. Achieving the CTE endorsement would benefit me personally because I plan to pursue a career in that occupation and the endorsement will help me stand out from others who are also pursuing the same career.
